A Machine or Domain Group Cannot Be Added to the
Admin Groups List
Symptom Cause/Solution
SAN Manager LM
reports error 13242:
“Cannot find a group
with the name
specified” when you
try to add a group
through the Enter
Other Groups text
box.
You do not have the proper credentials to access the Security
Accounts Manager (SAM) on the machine or domain that
contains the group you are trying to add.
To add a domain group, do one of the following steps, and then go
into the administration groups dialog box and enter the group by
using the Enter Other Groups text box.
– Go into Network Neighborhood and log on to the PDC via a
network share.
– Using the command line, enter the following net use command:
net use \\<domain-pdc>\IPC$ /user:<domain>\<username>
To add a machine group, do one of the following steps, and then go

using the Enter Other Groups text box.
– Go into Network Neighborhood and log on to the machine via a
network share.
– Using the command line, enter the following net use command:
net use \\<machine>\IPC$ /user:<machine>\<username\
