HP SureStore E SAN Manager LUN Management Administrator's Guide
180 Configuring SAN Disks That Have No Active Logical Units
Configuring SAN Disks That Have No Active Logical
Units
Some devices present no active logical units when they are newly installed or otherwise
un-configured. Previous versions (1.1 and earlier) of SAN Manager LM would not discover
devices without active logical units, which meant the device could not be assigned to a
host. As a result, the device management software could not communicate with the device
to allow it to be configured. The current version of SAN Manager LM is able to discover
devices without active logical units and present an entry for LUN 0 of the device.
1. Attach the device to the SAN.
2. On a host that has the SAN Manager LM administration application installed, run the
application and scan for devices.
The device that has no logical units will be displayed as LUN 0, a missing device.
3. Assign the missing device to the host that has the device management software
installed.
4. Use the device management software to configure the device.
5. Depending on the device management tool, you may need to reboot to activate your
configuration changes.
