Administration
Using SAN Manager LM’s Silent Install Mode
SAN Manager LM’s Silent Install feature allows users to run the installer with no required
interaction. The silent install is performed by executing the setup.exe program from a
command line with the -s flag, for example, setup.exe -s
During the silent installation process, SAN Manager LM will create a log file reporting the
status of the installation. The default log file is called setup.log and is created in the same
directory that the setup.exe application was executed from. If you do not want additional
files being written to the directory containing the installer, as in the case of sharing the
installation files on a network, you may specify an alternate location on the command line
with the -f2 flag, for example, setup -s -f2C:\Mydir\MyFile.log
The ModifiedInstall.txt file allows you to specify the desired installation settings before
launching the installer, thus enabling full control of the installation even when the installer
is executed in silent mode. For more information about using the ModifiedInstall.txt file,
see page 176.
Note If you do not edit the ModifiedInstall.txt file, SAN Manager LM will be installed
with all of the installer’s default settings.
HP recommends editing the ModifiedInstall.txt file and performing a manual installation
before launching subsequent automated (silent) installations. This will allow you to verify
that you have entered valid parameters in the ModifiedInstall.txt file. If there are invalid
parameters in the ModifiedInstall.txt file during a silent install, the installation will fail and
the log file will report ResultCode=-12.
The silent installer will dynamically load all of the SAN Manager LM services only if the HP
SAN Manager LM QLogic HBA driver was included in the installation. If any of the SAN
Manager LM services fail to load dynamically during the silent installation, the installation
process will finish and then automatically reboot the system.
