146 Formatting UPM Partitions
Formatting UPM Partitions
When you assign a UPM partitioned device to a Windows NT host, all UPM file system
partitions are listed with drive letters in Windows Explorer and My Computer. For
instructions on using UPM devices with non-Windows NT hosts, see the SAN Manager LM
Installation Guide for the appropriate operating system.
Note When you assign a database device to a Windows NT host, the database
partition is hidden by SAN Manager LM.
UPM free space partitions are not listed in Disk Administrator, Windows
Explorer, or My Computer. If you want to use a free space partition on a SAN
Manager LM host, you must use SAN Manager LM’s partitioning utility to
change the partition’s type from free space to file system.
If you double-click the drive listing of an unformatted UPM file system partition in
Windows Explorer, Windows NT informs you that the disk does not contain a recognized
file system:
This warning appears because the disk has not been formatted, so it contains no file
system.
