Adding and Removing Devices
Devices can be added to and removed from the SAN database without rebooting network
hosts or devices.
Adding Devices to the SAN
1. Power up the devices that will be added to the network.
2. Connect the devices to the network.
3. If necessary, install and register a new license key to enable the added storage (see page
114 for instructions).
4. To add the new devices to the database, click the Scan for Devices button or
choose Database Scan for Devices.
5. If desired, partition and format the new storage devices.
Note To set up devices with standard partitioning/formatting utilities, you must
assign the devices to the host performing the partitioning/formatting. To set up
devices through SAN Manager LM, you must unassign the devices. For more
information about partitioning devices in SAN Manager LM, see page 138.
Removing a Device from the SAN
1. If the device is assigned to a host or share group, unassign it.
2. Physically detach the device from the SAN.
3. Click the Scan for Devices Attached to the SAN button or choose Database
Scan for Devices.
Since the device is no longer attached to the SAN, the device icon will change into a
missing device icon.
