Component Description
SM60client The SM60client provides the user interface for managing the Storage Arrays. You can install
the client software in one of two locations: on a remote management station, or on the host if
you want to use it as a management station. See the

SM60agent The SM60agent, or host-agent management software, provides the communication link
between the SM60 client software and the Storage Array.The host-agent management
software must be installed on each host connected to the Storage Arrays you want to
manage.
A management station communicates with a Storage Array through a host running the host-
agent software. The host-agent receives requests from the management station and sends
them to the controllers in the Storage Array through the Fibre Channel I/O connection. The
communication between the management station and the controllers is done through a
special volume configured by controllers called an access volume. This volume uses one of
the logical unit numbers (LUNs) available on the host.
The SM60agent package also contains the SM60devices utility that correlates the volumes
you create using the storage management software with their operating system device
names.
Hosts with the host-agent software installed will be automatically discovered by the storage
management software and appear in the Device Tree in the Enterprise Management
Window along with their attached Storage Arrays if you choose the Automatic Discovery
option.

Active Controller
(RDAC) multi-path
driver software
RDAC is an I/O path fail-over driver installed on the host computers that access the Storage
Array. Typically, a pair of active controllers is installed in the Storage Array. Each volume in
the Storage Array is “owned” by one controller that controls the I/O between the volume and
the application host along the I/O path. When a component in the I/O path fails, such as a
cable or the controller itself, the RDAC multi-path driver transfers ownership of the volumes
assigned to that controller to the other controller in the pair.
The RDAC is required to be installed on the host to which the storage array is connected.
The RDAC is installed as part of the HP Storage Manager 60 software.
