Disk Module Carrier Removal/Replacement
If the disk module carrier has been damaged, it can be replaced without replacing the disk
drive inside. If the damage to the carrier is a result of dropping it, the disk drive inside may
be damaged as well. Disk carriers must be replaced by a trained service representative
only.
C
AUTION
Touching the disk circuit board can cause high energy
discharge and permanently damage the disk.
Disks are fragile and should be handled carefully .
Dropping or mishandling the disk may damage it.
If the disk is still in the disk enclosure, remove the disk module. See "Removing a Disk
Module or Filler Module" on page 292.
1. Put the ESD strap on your wrist and attach the free end to an appropriate ground.
C
AUTION
Failure to protect against ESD can result in the loss of all current data as well
as the ability to store any future data on the disk.
2. Set the disk module, circuit-side down, on an ESD mat. Standoffs (E in Figure 104) keep
circuits away from the table surface.
