Prepare the library
1. Perform a save image by clicking Tools >
Save/Restore. After replacing the RCU, you will
restore the image using the Restore command.

image, see the HP StoreEver Enterprise Systems
Library (ESL) G3 Tape Library User Guide.
2. Take the library offline:
a. Make sure there is no I/O activity on any of
the partitions.
b. Make sure that you are viewing the physical
library. From the View menu or in the
Managed Views region of the OCP, click the
name of the physical library.
c. Click Operations→Change Mode.
Alternatively, in the Managed Views section
of the OCP, click the mode button next to the
name of the physical library or partition for
which you would like to change the mode.
(The button reads either Online or Offline.)

appears with the current state of the physical
library or partition shown.
d. Select the Offline button to take the physical
library offline.
3. On the OCP, press Robotics Enabled to return the
picker assembly to the home position.
4. Open the service door to the Control Module.
5. Attach the ESD strap to your wrist and to an
unpainted surface inside the door.
Remove the existing RCU card
1. Locate the RCU card. It is the second card from
the left on the Library Management Module
(LMM). The LMM is located directly below the
I/O management unit.

2. Lift the latch hooks out of the locked position and
push them up and away from the center of the
RCU card. You will feel the RCU card disengage
from the LMM unit backplane.
