Replacement Instructions
This document describes how to remove and replace an
existing Robotics Control Unit (RCU) card in an ESL G3
Tape Library.

CAUTION: Parts can be damaged by
electrostatic discharge. Keep parts in their
containers until needed. Make sure that you are
properly grounded when touching static sensitive
components.
CAUTION: The RCU card is hot-swappable;
however, you must disable the robotics before
replacing the RCU card.
IMPORTANT: With several different RCU
versions available, it is critical that the
replacement RCU is the same version as the
RCU being replaced. The following can be used
to identify the RCU version:
• The external bezel of SPS-BD ROBOTIC
CONTROL UNIT V3 HW REV2 has “Ver.
2” etched into it.
• There are stickers on the bezel (visible
when the board is removed) that state
“Robotics Control Unit” (SPS-BD ROBOTIC
CONTROL UNIT v2) or “Robotics Control
Unit 2.0” (SPS-BD ROBOTIC CONTROL
UNIT V3 HW REV2).
If the RCU version cannot be accurately
determined visually, use the following to govern
RCU replacement:

Inspect the contents of the kit
The kit contains one RCU card.
You will also need the ESD strap that shipped with the
ESL G3.
