Unpacking Instructions

Abstract

This document describes how to unpack a Parking Module,

Control Module, Expansion Module, or High Density

Expansion Module (HDEM) of an ESL G3 Tape Library.

CAUTION: Parts can be damaged by

electrostatic discharge. Keep parts in their

containers until needed. Make sure that you are

properly grounded when touching static sensitive

components.

Locate tools to unpack the module

The following tools are necessary to unpack the

module:

• Box-knife or scissors

• 14 mm socket wrench

• 24 mm wrench

• 6 mm hex wrench or 16 mm open end wrench

Position the module close to the installation

site

While it is still on the pallet, move the module close

to the installation site. The installation site must meet

the following criteria:

• There is an AC outlet within 10 feet (3.05 m) of

the location of the Control Module.

• Floor or ceiling access is available to

accommodate the power, Fibre Channel, and

Ethernet cables to connect to the Control Module.

• Expansion Modules and HDEMs must be installed

directly to the right of the Control Module or the

right-most existing module, as you face the front

of the library.

• In the case of a dual-robot library, Parking

Modules must be installed to the left of the Control

Module and as the right-most frame in the library,

as you face the front of the library.

• There is adequate clearance for the access and

service doors.

• The selected location is level (0.00 +/- 0.30

degrees).

NOTE: The outer box has a sticker indicating

which is the ramp side of the module. The ramp

side is the back of the module.

6. Remove the packaging from the module 1. 2. 3. 4. Remove shrink-wrap from around the module and pallet. Use a box-knife or scissors to cut the straps that secure the module to the pallet. Remove the cardboard top from over the module. Remove the ramp and the outer layer of cardboard from around the module. 7. 8. 9. Remove any accessory boxes packed around the module. These boxes may contain power cables, Fibre Channel cables, software license certifications, or installation instructions.

. 4. Open the service door (at the back of the module). Use a 14 mm socket wrench to remove the bolts that hold the wood block and foam brace in place at the floor of the module. 1. Position the ramp at the back of the unit. Place the metal ramp grip feet in the holes on the pallet, then seat the feet in the holes. 10.

Removing one or more robots from a module IMPORTANT: If you are unpacking a Control Module or Parking Module, and that module will be connected to one or more Expansion Modules, remove the robot using the steps below, otherwise go to “Inspect the contents of the kit” (page 5). 5. 6. Pull out the U-shaped corrugated plastic piece that anchored the foam block you just removed from the center of the robot. The foam on the right side is different than on the left that is shown above.
