Abstract

This document describes how to remove and replace an

existing Library Management Module (LMM) fan assembly

in an ESL G3 Tape Library.

CAUTION: Parts can be damaged by

electrostatic discharge. Keep parts in their

containers until needed. Make sure that you are

properly grounded when touching static sensitive

components.

CAUTION: This is a time-sensitive procedure.

You must remove and replace the LMM fan

assembly in five minutes or less. Taking longer

than five minutes to complete the procedure can

damage the library.

Inspect the contents of the kit

The kit contains one LMM fan assembly.

You will also need the ESD strap that shipped with the

ESL G3.

Prepare the library

1. Open the service door to the module that contains

the LMM fan assembly to be replaced.

2. Attach the ESD strap to your wrist and to an

unpainted surface inside the door.

Remove the existing LMM fan assembly 1. Locate the LMM fan assembly cover plate. It is directly above the LMD and RCU cards, and directly below the I/O management unit. 1. Cable clamp 4. Unplug the two LMM fan assembly cables from the LMM backplane connectors. It is best to unplug each cable separately. 1. LMM fan assembly cables 2. Latch 3. Handle 5. 1. LMM fan assembly cover plate 2. 3. Loosen the thumbscrew and remove the LMM fan assembly cover plate.

Install the new LMM fan assembly 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. While pressing down on the latch and holding the handle, slide the new LMM fan assembly into the fan housing. The metal plate on the bottom of the assembly fits into the slide grooves of the fan housing. Plug the two LMM fan assembly cables into the LMM backplane connectors. It is best to plug in each cable separately. Bend the cable clamp over the cables to secure them to the fan housing.
