Abstract

This document describes how to remove and replace an

existing I/O management unit cooling assembly in an ESL

G3 Tape Library.

CAUTION: Parts can be damaged by

electrostatic discharge. Keep parts in their

containers until needed. Make sure that you are

properly grounded when touching static sensitive

components.

NOTE: The I/O management unit cooling

assembly can be replaced without taking the

library offline. However, if the library is not

taken offline for the replacement procedure, an

event will be posted.

Inspect the contents of the kit

The kit contains one I/O management unit cooling fan

assembly.

You will also need the ESD strap that shipped with the

ESL G3 and a Phillips screwdriver.

Remove the existing cooling assembly

CAUTION: This is a time-sensitive procedure.

You must remove and replace the I/O

management unit cooling assembly in five

minutes or less. Taking more than five minutes

to complete this procedure could result in

damage to the library.

1. Open the service door of the module that contains

the cooling assembly to be replaced.

2. Attach the ESD strap to your wrist and to an

unpainted surface inside the door.

3. Locate the I/O management unit cooling assembly

to be replaced.

1. Latch handle 2. Thumbscrew 5. This releases the cooling assembly latch handle. Pull the latch handle down and use it to slide the cooling assembly out of the I/O management unit. 1. Slot 1 (empty) 2. Slot 2 (Control Management Blade) Install the new cooling assembly 3. Slot 3 (empty) 1. 4. Slot 4 (empty) 2. 3. 5. Slot 5 (empty) 6. Slot 6 (empty) 7. Slot 7 (EEB for lower drive bay) Slide the new cooling assembly all the way into the I/O management unit. Push the latch handle all the way up.
