Abstract

This document describes how to remove and replace the

tower motor assembly and drive belt in an ESL G3 tape

library High Density Expansion Module.

CAUTION: Parts can be damaged by

electrostatic discharge. Keep parts in their

containers until needed. Make sure that you are

properly grounded when touching static sensitive

components.

Inspect the contents of the kit

This kit contains:

• Motor

• Belt

• 5 mm hex wrench

• Installation instructions

Removing the motor assembly and drive

belt

Required tools: 5 mm hex wrench

1. Vary off the HDEM by pressing the button on the

operator panel on the rear access door of the

HDEM. The LED on the operator panel will turn

amber when the tower is varied off.

2. Open the rear access door.

3. Disconnect the tower motor cable from the TWR

board.

NOTE: When removing the tower motor

cable, be sure to hold the keyed connector

when removing the cable from the TWR

board so as to avoid damaging the tower

motor cable.

4. Loosen the 5 mm hex lockdown bolt that locks the

tower motor assembly to the plate.

1. Lockdown bolt 5. 1. Attachment bolts Turn the 5 mm tension bolt clockwise to release the spring tension, and ease belt tension so the motor can be removed. 7. Pivot the motor out from under the belt and off the mounting plate locating pins. NOTE: If replacing the belt, slide it away and under the tower pulley then off. CAUTION: Do not turn the tension bolt too far. You only need to release the belt tension on the motor pulley enough for the belt to easily slip over the motor pulley.

2. Vary on the tower by pressing the Robotics Enabled button on the rear operator panel. The LED on the rear operator panel will turn solid green when the tower is varied on. Lift the motor assembly slightly off the bottom of the tower frame and set it on the locating pins on the mounting plate. Insert and tighten the three (3) motor assembly attachment bolts using the 5mm hex wrench.
