Abstract

This document describes how to install a control module of

an ESL G3 Tape Library.

CAUTION: Parts can be damaged by

electrostatic discharge. Keep parts in their

containers until needed. Make sure that you are

properly grounded when touching static sensitive

components.

Inspect the contents of the kit

Two silver and two gold keys are shipped with each

module. The gold keys open the service door. The

silver keys work on both the access and service doors.

All modules are keyed the same, so there is no chance

that a customer who has two or more modules could

end up with different keys. All keys are to be left with

the customer.

NOTE: Access to the interior of the library is

both a data integrity and safety issue.

The library can be ordered in different configurations.

Based on your configuration, check that the following

items are included with the library and that all are in

good condition.

Library components:

• Ordered number of tape drives (in separate

boxes, for field installation)

• One library power cable, two for modules with

a redundant power supply

• Ethernet expansion blade (EEB) (1 per 6 tape

drives)

• One shielded Ethernet cable per tape drive

• Optional redundant power supply (in a separate

box for field installation)

IMPORTANT: A separate envelope contains

the library license key to active the base slot

capacity for your ESL G3 Tape Library. Do not

discard this envelope.

Attach the ESD strap to your wrist and to an unpainted surface inside the door.

9. Locate and unpack the boxes for all ordered tape drives. Remove magazines from the control module as necessary and install each tape drive using the instructions provided. Verify that all installed drives are connected to the appropriate ports on the Ethernet expansion blade (EEB). The location of EEB ports and corresponding drives are: 1. Power cables 8. 2. Raise the control module off of the casters. To do so: a. Open the access and service doors of the control module. b. Using the 6 mm hex wrench or 16 mm open end wrench, raise the control module at each of the four corner legs seven (7) half turns after initial contact with the floor. 4. Verify the module is level front to back and left to right by placing a digital level at the following locations: a. Inside the access door b. Inside the service door c.

1. 2. Select Setup→Setup Wizard to install license keys, create at least one partition, set network parameters, and set the date and time. Select Setup→Licenses if there are additional license keys to enter. NOTE: Command View TL must be used to enter the TC347A, TC405A, and TC474A license keys. Be sure to download the latest Command View TL software for the customer. Command View TL can also be used to launch the LMC, enter additional license keys, and enable TapeAssure and Data Verification features.
