HP Enterprise StoreEver Systems Library (ESL) G3 Tape Library LTO-4, LTO-5, LTO-6 Tape Drive Installation and Replacement Instructions

1. Ethernet port
2. FC port 1
3. FC port 2
3. If this is a new drive installation, connect the
Ethernet Crossover cable to the Ethernet port and
the other end to the appropriate EEB port as
follows:
Drive # (bottom to
top)
Drive bayPortEEB

IMPORTANT: Drives must be populated
from bottom to top, consecutively. Do not
install drives in the upper drive bay before
the lower drive bay is full. Do not connect
cables to the upper EEB before the ports
on the lower EEB are connected.
Prepare the library for use
1. Detach the ESD strap and close the service access
door.
2. Inside the module, replace any magazines that
fit in their previous locations.
3. Put the drive online by using the Vary On
operation:
a. From the LCM, select ToolsDrives.
b. In the Drive(s) table, click to highlight the
drive to vary on.
c. Click Vary On.
4. Go to the rear of the module and observe the
following:
The green LED is solid on for three seconds
then blinks twice and repeats while the drive
firmware is downloading. It can take up to
20 minutes to complete the drive sled
firmware download.
The green LED blinks one time every second,
the amber LED is off, and the blue LED blinks
one time every 10 seconds when the drive
sled firmware download is complete.
After a few minutes, the green LED should
blink at the same cadence as the other drives
in the module.
NOTE: After you install a
replacement drive, the robotic control
unit (RCU) makes certain that the drive
sled is loaded with the proper
firmware. This firmware is based on
the currently installed level of library
firmware on the management control
blade (MCB). If the autoleveling
process fails, the drive sled becomes
inoperable and the library reports this
by logging an event.
If additional drives have been added:
a. From the library Operator Control Panel
(OCP), log in as either the service user (for
HP personnel) or the admin user (for
customers replacing a drive without HP
assistance).
b. Select ToolsLibrary
DiagnosticsTeachConfigureStart, and
allow the Teach operation to complete.
c. Select a partition and add the new drive(s).
