Remove magazines and the drive sled
blank plate (new installation only)
1. If there are storage magazines inside the module
in the location of the new drive, remove them.
From inside the module, pull the storage
magazine up and out of the module.
1. Magazines to be removed for access, then replaced
2. Magazines to be removed permanently
NOTE: Magazines must be removed in
a top-down order. For example, to remove
a magazine in column 2, section 3, first
you must remove the magazines located in
column 2 of, sections 1 and 2. Drives
coincide with columns 1 and 2 only. See

2. From the back of the module behind the service
door, use the Phillips screwdriver to loosen the
screw that secures the blank plate to the drive
bay.

3. Remove the blank plate from the module.
4. Store the blank plate in a safe location for
possible future use.
Install the new drive
1. Use the markings on the drive slot to carefully
align the drive sled with the guide slots in the bay
slot.
CAUTION: Forcing the drive into the bay
slot can cause the pins to bend.
2. Apply pressure evenly to both sides of the drive
and slide it into the drive bay slot.
3. Use the Phillips screwdriver or your fingers to
tighten the two retaining thumbscrews.
4. Check to see if the green LED on the back of the
drive is on. If it is not on, the drive is not installed
properly.

Connect the cables
CAUTION: To avoid damaging Fibre Channel
(FC) cables, do not bend them sharply or pinch
them. Allow a radial bend when reattaching the
FC cable.
1. If this is a replacement drive, reconnect the cables
to the ports exactly as they were connected to the
previous drive.
2. If this is a new drive installation, connect one end
of an FC cable to FC port 1 and the other end to
the SAN switch or host.
