HP Enterprise StoreEver Systems Library (ESL) G3 Tape Library LTO-4, LTO-5, LTO-6 Tape Drive Installation and Replacement Instructions

NOTE: If you are installing the 7th drive, you
must already have installed the HP ESL G3 Drive
7-12 Readiness Kit. If you have a second EEB
(located in slot 8 of the I/O management unit),
the kit is installed. If not, order and install the
kit before installing drives 7–12.
In a partially populated module, install a new
drive in the slot directly above the existing drive(s)
in the module.
In an unpopulated module, install a new drive in
the lowest slot in the lower drive bay.
To replace an existing failed drive, identify it. The
drive may need to be replaced due to high
read/write error rates from TapeAssure, or it may
display one of the following features:
The amber LED is solid on, indicating that the
drive sled drive DC to DC converter has failed.
The blue LED is solid off, indicating that the
drive is not receiving power, or solid on,
indicating that it is powered down.
All LEDs are off.
1. Port 1 LED (lights when connected)
2. Port 2 LED (lights when connected)
3. Green LED
4. Amber LED
5. Blue LED
Remove the existing drive (replacement
only)
1. Label and disconnect the cables from the drive.
CAUTION: To avoid damaging Fibre
Channel (FC) cables, do not bend them
sharply or pinch them. Allow a radial bend
when reattaching the FC cables.
2. Use the Phillips screwdriver or your fingers to
unscrew the two thumbscrews on the drive sled.
3. Remove the drive by gripping the drive sled
handle and pulling the entire drive sled toward
you.
