CAUTION: Parts can be damaged by
electrostatic discharge. Keep parts in their
containers until needed. Make sure that you are
properly grounded when touching static sensitive
components.
NOTE: The drives are hot-swappable. You do
not have to turn off power to the library or
module to remove and replace a tape drive.
Inspect the contents of the kit
The drive kit includes:
• One LTO Ultrium drive sled (drive in an enclosure)
• One Ethernet Crossover cable
You will also need the ESD strap that shipped with the
ESL G3, an FC cable, and a Phillips screwdriver.
Prepare the library
1. If you are installing a new drive instead of
replacing an existing drive, use the backup
application to remove all cartridges from the
magazines that will be removed from the library.
2. From the OCP, select
Setup→Partitions→Configure.
3. Select the partitions that include the magazines
and click modify, then remove the appropriate
magazines and add other magazines to the
partition to maintain the same partition size as
the original.
4. If you are installing a new drive instead of
replacing an existing drive, skip to Step 11.
5. End any processes on the host that are
communicating with the drive.
6. From the library Operator Control Panel (OCP),
log in as either the service user (for HP personnel)
or the admin user (for customers replacing a drive
without HP assistance).
7. Check to see if the drive is empty, use one of the
following methods:
• From the OCP, select Monitor→Drives, then
view the Barcode and Location columns to
see if the drive is empty.
• From The OCP, select Explorer, then click
Show. All drives are displayed, and report
empty or the barcode of the cartridge in the
drive.
