HP StorageWorks Disk Array XP operating system configuration guide: Windows NT (A5951-96023, December 2005)
Configure disk devices
After verifying device recognition, configure the devices on the Windows NT system.
Writing the signatures
The first step in configuring the disk devices is to write the signatures on the new devices
using the NT Disk Administrator. You must write a signature on each disk device to
enable the NT system to work with the device online. The 32-bit signature identifies the
disk to the N T system. If the d isk’s TID or LUN is changed the Disk Administrator and
Windows N T fault-tolerant driver will continue to recognize it.
To write th
e signatures on the disk devices:
1. From the Start menu, select:
Programs
→Administra tive Tools (Common)→
Disk Administrator
Awindownotifies you that the Disk Administrator has recognized the new hardware
and will update the system configuration.
2. Click En
ter to continue.
A warning window notifies you that no signature was found on Disk x (the disk
array). Writing a signature is a safe operation and will n ot affect your ability to
access this disk from other operating systems. If you choose not to write a signature,

3. Click Yes towriteasignatureonthedisk.
Clicking Yes writes the host’s 32-bit signature that identifies the disk array. The disk
numbers are assigned sequentially by the adapter and TID/LUN and are displayed
during system start-up.The Disk Administrator window opens to allow you to create
