HP StorageWorks XP12000 Disk Array owner's guide (AE002-96029, October 2006)
Unit emergency power off switch
The UNIT EM ERGENCY POWER OFF switch is located on the back of the DKC cabinet.
For more information about this switch, see Emergency power off.
Service processor (SVP)
The Service Processor inside the controller performs these functions:
• Collects p erformance data on the system for diagnostic testing and analysis
• Provides your HP support representative with access to the system
• Hosts system management software
Your HP support representative uses the SVP to configure, m aintain, and upgrade the
system software and hardware. The SVP is not a customer-accessible component.
To protect your security, the SVP do es not have access to any user data stored on array
disks.
If y ou have extreme av ailability requirements, an optional second SVP is available.
Disk drives
The DKC must contain at least nine hard disk drives and can contain up to 128. For more
informat
ion about disk drives, see the following section about disk drives in the DKUs.
HP StorageWorks Continuous Track XP
HP Continuous Track XP is a program in the system that detects and reports prob lems
even before they are noticed by operators and users. HP Continuous Track XP “phones
home” to the HP Storage Technology Center (STC) , providing:
• P eriodic “well” checkups
This checkup records the health of the disk array on a day-to-day basis. Every
24 hours, HP Continuous Track XP calls STC (your HP support representative sets
the time of the call). When a successful connection is made, status information is
transferred from the disk array to STC. If any configuration changes have been made,
configuration information is also sent.
• Incidental “sick” calls
When an error o ccurs, a service information message (SIM) is generated, stored in
the disk array for use by your H P support representative, and reported to STC. For
more information, see Service information messages.
Notethatthe“phonehome”capabilitycanbeturned off, if desired. HP Continuous Track
XP still monitors the disk array, but does not automatically notify H P if a problem occurs.
