Enhancements

Automated Storage Manager (HP ASM) is a storage hosting and management tool that simplifies

hosting application and shared folder storage, data protection, managing storage, and monitoring

storage. Designed for IT generalists, HP ASM software enables you to create, migrate, manage, and

protect shared storage without the need for storage expertise. It includes tools to quickly and easily

migrate and manage data using automated best practice settings.

NOTE:

HP Automated Storage Manager is preinstalled on all HP StorageWorks X1000 Network Storage

Systems. HP ASM is not supported on HP X3000 Network Storage Systems.

The following enhancements are included in ASM version 4.0:

• Support for provisioning greater than 2 TB storage for file shares, Exchange, SQL and user-defined

applications. With single hard drives reaching capacities of 1 TB, it is possible to create RAID

arrays larger than 2 TB in order to meet the capacity requirements of storage functions such as

archiving and disk-to-disk backup.

• VDS Hardware Provider version 4.14

Fixes

The following defects were fixed in ASM 4.0:

• VDS hardware provider reports frequent shutdowns and issues error messages

• On HP StorageWorks X1000 Network Storage Systems, HP Automated Storage Manager (ASM)

issues a licensing error for RAID-6

• Multiple alerts are issued for user-defined iSCSI LUNs that are presented to multiple hosts

• Discovery fails if MPIO is configured manually on an application server and iSCSI Target is con-

figured to use initiators identified by IP address, DNS name or MAC address

• Local mounting of snapshots fails on HP StorageWorks X1000 Network Storage Systems. Sub-

sequently, any backup that uses locally mounted snapshots also fails.

• Improper alerts are shown if HP Data Protector Express is not installed.

• Backup of iSCSI application server data fails on X1000 Network Storage Systems running Windows
