Adding Servers
After verifying the system requirements as described in
Requirements on page 2-1 and installing Storage Mirroring
Reporting Center, you can begin adding servers to be monitored.
Adding a Storage Mirroring server to be monitored
After you have installed Storage Mirroring Reporting Center, you must configure it to monitor your
Storage Mirroring servers.
In order to monitor a Storage Mirroring server, you must define it in the navigation tree as a “Node”
in the user interface. To set up a Storage Mirroring server:
1. In the navigation tree, select the Storage Mirroring Servers node.
2. Right-click the node and select Configuration, New, New Node. The Server Properties dialog
box appears.
3. In the Server Properties dialog box, enter the hostname of the server you wish to monitor in the
Name field. Optionally, add a description for the host in the Description field.
4. Specify a Username and Password of an administrator on the host you will be monitoring. This
is used to connect to the server to gather data.
5. Create aliases for any alternative names for the host. Click Add to create an alias. Alias creation
is recommended in certain situations in which there are problems with name resolution.
6. Click OK.
You may configure Group Nodes in the same manner and place or create your Storage Mirroring
servers within various groups. For more information, see Creating a group on page 4-4.
Importing Storage Mirroring servers to be
monitored
You can import a list of servers and groups that has been exported as an .xml file from the Storage
Mirroring Management Console.
1. Select File, Import.
2. Browse to the .xml file that contains your server information, then click Open.
3. After the import is complete, select the imported servers in the navigation tree.
4. Right-click, then select Configuration, Assign Credentials.
5. In the Server username field, enter the name of an administrator who has access to the
Storage Mirroring server. For more information about permissions that need to be assigned to
the username, see Adding a Storage Mirroring server to be monitored on page 4-1.
6. In the Server password field, enter the password for the administrator.
7. When you are finished, click OK.
