Virtual Recovery
Assistant: Protecting a
Server with a Hyper-V
Virtual Machine
Storage Mirroring can be used to protect entire physical or virtual machines with Microsoft Hyper-V
virtual machines. Storage Mirroring uses Virtual Recovery Assistant technology to automatically
provision the virtual machines for you on the target Hyper-V host, greatly simplifying the protection
process.
The Storage Mirroring clients are used to create protection jobs.
The target Hyper-V host server is a physical machine that the Hyper-V host software runs on.
All replica virtual machines will reside on this host.
Virtual replica machines are hosted by the Hyper-V host server. The virtual replica machines
are created by the source protection job, but remain powered off until failover. At failover, the
replica machine is powered on and assumes the identity of the original source machine.
