HP StorageWorks Storage Mirroring Application Manager for Windows release notes (T2558-96088, February 2008)
11. The Dynamic updates setting for the DNS zone should be set to Secure only. Otherwise, you
must disable dynamic registration on the source server in order to prevent the source from
reclaiming its DNS record.
Exchange
1. When NAT or certain VPN s exist between the Application Manager and either the source or
target, the Application Manager will be unable to configure protection due to limitations of
WMI. Please contact Hewlett-Packard Technical Support to obtain instructions for configuring
protection
manually.
2. If the source Exchange ser ver has a public store that has a non-MAPI Owning Tree, the folders
within this tree may not be updated with current information, thus unavailable to the users.
3. If you close the Application Manager while failing back to the original Exchange production
server, you may have to manually run the post_restore.bat file (located in the source’s Storage
Mirroring directory). This .bat file starts the Exchange services and updates any public folders
original
ly hosted by the source.
4. In a like-named environment, the Application Manager creates temporary nam e and IP address
resources on the target cluster for mirroring and replication. A D NS entry is created based on
thetargetowningnode’sDNSserver.Ifthesourceandtargetowningnodesareconfigured to
use different DNS servers, this can cause issues when enabling protection. If you have issues
enabling protection in this configuration, verify that the source owning node’s DNS ser ver is
correctly set up to receive DNS zone updates from the target owning node’s DNS server, or
reload the for ward and reverse zones using the dnsmgmt utility.
5. In a like-named environment with more than one DNS server, there may be a d elay contacting
the source server after failback. The DNS server used by the source cluster is updated on
fail
back to point back to the updated on the source server. However, if the Application Manager
is ru
nning on a machine that uses a different DNS server, it may not recognize the change until
the n
ext DNS z one refresh.
6. If you have deselected any Exchange mail stores prior to failover, an error message will appear
during failback stating that there were potential errors (i.e., unpaired mailstores). This message
can be ignored since the mailstores were not failed over in the first place.
7. If you create a new mailstore on the target while the source is failed over, upon failback an
error will appear stating that there is an unpaired m ailstore. The Application Manager will not
au
tomatically move the new mailstore and users back to the source.
8. Upon failback/restore of Exchange 2007, the Application Manager doesn’t verify that Powershell
is loaded before it tries to verify the stores had mounted.
9. If you attempt to perform a restore from an Exchange 2007 client that does not have Powershell
loaded, an error is returned. Targ et data verification does pro vide an alert when Pow ershell
is missing.
SQL
1. If you are configuring protection for a SQL database using Database Only mode and the
database is online on the target, the database cannot be taken offline on the target by using the
Fix function if it has a SQL Server replication publication. The publication will have to be deleted
using the SQL Server management tools before the database can be taken offline.
2. You cannot currently use the Application Manager interface to configure clustered SQL
environments. You can, however, configure SQL cluster environments using the manual process
outlined in the application notes.
3. In environments with a very large number of servers in Active Directory, you may experience
delays while the Application M anager searches for SQL servers.

To override the automatic scan for SQL servers, you can launch Storage Mirroring
Application Manager through the command line using the /nosqlsearch option (DTAM
/nosqlsearch). This will cause the Application Manager not to populate the Source and
Target fields automatically. You will then need to click the Advanced Find button and add
the source and target SQL servers manually.
