Additional upgrading guidelines
When you are upgrading Storage Mirroring, keep in mind the
following limitations between versions.
! Clients—The Management Console and text clients are
dependent on the major version, but a client cannot control a
server running a later release. For example, a 4.3 client can
control any 4.3 or earlier source or target. A 4.2 client can
control any 4.2 or earlier source or target, but it cannot
control the later 4.3 server.
! Servers—Source and target servers should be the same major
and minor version, although to accomodate rolling upgrades, a
Storage Mirroring 4.2 source can connect to a Storage
Mirroring 4.3 target. These versions are not reciprocal: a
Storage Mirroring 4.3 source cannot connect to a Storage
Mirroring 4.2 target.
NOTE: A Storage Mirroring major version is identified by
the first numeral and the minor version is identified
by the second numeral. For example, in the release
4.3, 4 is the major version number and 3 is the minor
version number. Additional numbers beyond the
major and minor version indicate service packs,
hotfixes, and build numbers.
NOTE: When performing a rolling upgrade, update the
target servers first. After the upgrade is
complete and the target servers are rebooted,
the sources will automatically reconnect to the
targets. Upgrade the sources when convenient.
If you are using a chained configuration, update
the last target first, then update the middle
server acting as both a source and target, and
update the production source last.
