HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide Version 2.2

4 Configuring a factory-installed system
This chapter describes how to configure a system that has had the HP SFS software installed before the
system was delivered to your site. If your system was not factory-installed, proceed to Chapter 6 (if your
system uses EVA4000 storage) or to Chapter 7 (if your system uses SFS20 storage) to install the system.
When a system is factory-installed, all hardware is configured, the software is installed, and all components
are tested. To ship the system, some parts of the system must be disassembled. When the system is
reassembled on-site, it is important to verify that the system continues to operate correctly. You must also
configure the system with local site parameters. These tasks are described in this chapter.
When the system is factory-installed, file systems are created on the system to test its operation. However,
these file systems are deleted prior to delivery so that you can create your own file systems to suit your
planned applications.
To configure and commission a factory-installed system, perform the following tasks:
1. Gather the system information.
See Section 4.1 for more information.
2. Reassemble the system.
This process involves reconnecting wires and cables between cabinets, and applying power. See
Section 4.2 for more information.
3. Connect the system to the site network.
Although it is possible to operate the system using the rack-mounted monitor and keyboard, it is much
more convenient if you can log in to the system from the site network. See Section 4.3 for more
information.
4. Verify that the system has been reassembled correctly.
At this point, local site parameters have not been applied, and you can only verify the operation of
servers, the management network, and the storage systems. You cannot check connections to the rest
of the site (you can perform these tests later). See Section 4.4 for more information.
5. Configure the local site parameters.
In HP SFS Version 2.2, you may need to reinstall the system software (even though it has already been
installed in the factory) to configure some local site parameters. However, because the storage system
has already been configured, the installation process is much faster than an installation on a system
that has not been factory-installed. See Section 4.5 for more information.
6. Verify that the system has been installed correctly and is operating normally.
See Section 4.6 for more information.
Use the checklist in Table C-2 in Appendix C to verify that you have performed all of the tasks, in the correct
order.
