HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide Version 2.2

Planning the networks 2–11
CAUTION: With the exception of bonded Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, each Gigabit Ethernet
interface must be on a separate logical network.
The maximum transfer unit (MTU) of the network interface. HP recommends that you use the default of
1500 for all Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and in the case of using a bonded Gigabit Ethernet
interconnect, you must use an MTU of 1500.
If you want to configure static routing on the network, you will need to specify the static routes.
NOTE: If you do not want to configure static routing during the installation, you can do so later,
when the system has been installed and is running.
Static routes are entered in the following format:
network,netmask,gateway; ...
For example, to add the following two static routes:
network 10.10.0.0, netmask 255.255.0.0, gateway 10.128.8.1
network 10.0.0.0, netmask 255.255.0.0, gateway 10.64.0.1
You must enter the following:
10.10.0.0,255.255.0.0,10.128.8.1;10.0.0.0,255.255.0.0,10.64.0.1
CAUTION: If a static route is configured incorrectly, the configure server command may
fail when it attempts to configure a network on a server. When you are specifying a static route,
please ensure that the following conditions are met:
A route to the network does not already exist.
The netmask you choose is appropriate for the network.
The gateway node is up and is on the same network as the device being configured with
the static route.
The alias IP address of the network (optional).
The alias IP address is an alias to the first server in the HP SFS system, but will route to the second
server if the first server is unavailable. This is the IP address that is used by Lustre file system clients to
retrieve configuration data when they are mounting file systems.
Whether the network is to be configured on all servers.
If you want to use the network as a dedicated site connection, with no connection to client systems,
you must specify that the network is not to be configured on all servers. The network will then only be
configured on the administration server and the MDS server.
CAUTION: Where a dual or bonded Gigabit Ethernet interconnect is used, the eth1 network device
(NIC 2) must either remain unconfigured, or be configured only on the administration and MDS servers.
Section 2.4.2.1 through Section 2.4.2.3 provide more information on Gigabit Ethernet interconnect
configurations. If your system is using a dual Gigabit Ethernet network, ensure that the networks are
configured for optimal performance, as described in Section 2.4.2.2. If your system is using a bonded
Gigabit Ethernet network, ensure that the networks are configured as described in Section 2.4.2.3.
The Gigabit Ethernet network information is entered at the Configure Gigabit Ethernet Networks
menu during installation (see Section 6.8.2.1 or Section 7.4.2.1, depending on the type of storage used).
