HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide Version 2.2

Configuration 4
A single Gigabit Ethernet interconnect is the sole interconnect and the Gigabit Ethernet connection is also
used as the external connection for the MDS and administration servers. Note that because the Object
Storage Servers are connected to the Gigabit Ethernet network, they can be accessed directly on the site
network (as well as being accessible through the MDS and administration servers); however, in normal
operation, you do not need to access the Object Storage Servers directly on the site network.
The site network is also the interconnect (that is, the network is not solely dedicated as an interconnect,
therefore all servers are effectively connected to the site network).
Figure 2-5 shows the connections in this configuration.
Figure 2-5 Configuration 4—Single Gigabit Ethernet interconnect (connected to site network)
In this configuration, the connections are as follows:
NIC 1 on all of the servers in the HP SFS system is connected to the management network.
NIC 2 on all servers is connected to the interconnect.
NIC 2 on the administration and MDS servers is used for administration activities.
On ProLiant DL360 servers, the PCI slots are used as follows:
The first PCI slot on each server is unused.
The second PCI slot on each server is always used for connection to storage.
On ProLiant DL380 servers, the PCI slots are used as follows:
The first PCI slot on each server is unused.
The second and third PCI slots on each server are always used for connection to storage. One
slot may be unused if there is only one storage HBA.
