HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide Version 2.2
Planning the networks 2–7
Configuration 3
Two interconnects are used: one is a Quadrics, Myrinet, or Voltaire InfiniBand dedicated interconnect, the
other is a single Gigabit Ethernet interconnect. Neither a dual nor a bonded Gigabit Ethernet interconnect
can be used in this configuration. The Gigabit Ethernet interconnect is also used as the external connection
for the administration and MDS servers.
Note that because the Object Storage Servers are connected to the Gigabit Ethernet network, they can be
accessed directly on the site network (as well as being accessible through the MDS and administration
servers); however, in normal operation, you do not need to access the Object Storage Servers directly on
the site network.
Figure 2-4 shows the connections in this configuration.
Figure 2-4 Configuration 3—Quadrics, Myrinet, or Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect, and single Gigabit
Ethernet interconnect
In this configuration, the connections are as follows:
• NIC 1 on all of the servers in the HP SFS system is connected to the management network.
• NIC 2 on all servers is connected to the Gigabit Ethernet interconnect.
• NIC 2 on the administration and MDS servers is used for administration activities.
• On ProLiant DL360 servers, the PCI slots are used as follows:
• An adapter is used in the first PCI slot on all servers for the connection to the Myrinet, Quadrics,
or Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect.
• The second PCI slot on each server is always used for connection to storage.
• On ProLiant DL380 servers, the PCI slots are used as follows:
• An adapter is used in the first PCI slot on all servers for the connection to the Myrinet, Quadrics,
or Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect.
• The second and third PCI slots on each server are always used for connection to storage. One
slot may be unused if there is only one storage HBA.
