HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide Version 2.2

Planning the networks 2–5
There are a number of configurations for the site connections and the networks that are allowed by these
rules, and these configurations are described here.
Configuration 1
A dedicated Quadrics, Myrinet, Voltaire InfiniBand, or a dual or bonded Gigabit Ethernet interconnect is
used. The site network is not an interconnect.
Figure 2-1 shows the connections in this configuration when a dedicated Myrinet, Quadrics, or Voltaire
InfiniBand interconnect is used.

Figure 2-2 shows the connections in this configuration when a dedicated dual or bonded Gigabit Ethernet
interconnect is used.
NOTE: A single Dual Port PCI-X Gigabit Ethernet adapter is used for dual and bonded Gigabit Ethernet
interconnects. In Figure 2-2, this is represented by NIC 3 and NIC 4.

In this configuration, the connections are as follows:
NIC 1 on all of the servers in the HP SFS system is connected to the management network.
NIC 2 on the administration and MDS servers is connected to the site network.
NIC 2 on the Object Storage Servers is not connected.
