HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide Version 2.2

Hardware overview 1–19
1.6 Hardware overview
This section provides an overview of the supported hardware configurations for HP SFS systems, and is
organized as follows:
Site, interconnect, and management network connections (Section 1.6.1)
HP ProLiant DL360 G4/G4p server (Section 1.6.2)
HP ProLiant DL380 G4 server (Section 1.6.3)
The management network (Section 1.6.4)
The Gigabit Ethernet interconnect (Section 1.6.5)
The dual Gigabit Ethernet interconnect (Section 1.6.6)
The bonded Gigabit Ethernet interconnect (Section 1.6.7)
The Quadrics interconnect (Section 1.6.8)
The Myrinet interconnect (Section 1.6.9)
The Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect (Section 1.6.10)
The EVA4000 storage array (Section 1.6.11)
The SFS20 storage array (Section 1.6.12)
1.6.1 Site, interconnect, and management network connections
As explained earlier, all of the servers in the HP SFS system are connected to the management network and
to the interconnect. The administration server and the MDS server are connected to the site network in
addition to being connected to the management network and the interconnect.
On the server types supported for use in HP SFS Version 2.2, there are two network interface card ports
(NIC 1 and NIC 2), allowing two Ethernet connections.
Each server also has a number of PCI slots (there are two such slots on ProLiant DL360 servers, and three
on ProLiant DL380 servers).
NOTE: The first PCI slot on a ProLiant DL360 server is the left-most slot when looking at the rear of the
server.
The first PCI slot on a ProLiant DL380 server is the bottom slot when looking at the rear of the server.
See Figure 1-14 and Figure 1-15 for illustrations of the HP ProLiant DL360 G4 and the HP ProLiant DL380
G4 servers.
The configuration rules for network connections are described in detail in Section 2.4.1, which also provides
examples and illustrations of site, interconnect, and management network configurations.
