HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide Version 2.2
The configure array commandJ–2
J.1 Configuring SFS20 arrays attached to the administration and MDS
servers
When you run the configure array array_number command for the arrays attached to the
administration server, the arrays are configured as follows:
• An administration LUN or spare administration LUN for the administration and MDS server pair is
automatically created on each array.
• A service LUN or spare service LUN for the administration and MDS server pair is automatically
created on each array.
• By default, the RAID redundancy is set to ADG, the number of disks per group is set to 11, and one
disk is set aside for use as a spare in the event of disk failure.
• The configure array array_number command automatically sets the roles of the LUNs that it
creates on an SFS20 array.
• You can specify the number and size of MDS LUNs that are created on an array. If you do not specify
any LUN sizes, one LUN is created. This LUN will be the largest size possible—it will use all of the
remaining space in the disk group, up to a maximum of the 2TB LUN limit. See Section J.3 for more
information on LUN sizes.
J.2 Configuring SFS20 arrays attached to Object Storage Servers
When you run the configure array array_number command for the arrays attached to the Object
Storage Servers, the arrays are configured as follows:
• A service LUN or spare service LUN for the server pair is automatically created on each array.
• By default, the RAID redundancy is set to ADG, the number of disks per group is set to 11, and one
disk is set aside for use as a spare in the event of disk failure.
• The configure array array_number command automatically sets the roles of the LUNs that it
creates on an SFS20 array.
• You can specify the number and size of OST LUNs that are created on the array. If you do not specify
any LUN sizes, one LUN (using all of the remaining available space in the disk group, to a maximum
of 2TB) is created. This is the recommended configuration where 160GB or 250GB disks are used.
Where 500GB disks are used, the recommended configuration is to create two OST LUNs on each
array. See Section J.3 for more information on LUN sizes.
J.3 Specifying LUN sizes
When you are configuring SFS20 arrays, note the following points regarding LUN size specification:
• The largest LUN size possible is 2TB (2048MB).
• If you specify a LUN size greater than 2TB, a LUN of 2TB is created. Similarly, if you specify the LUN
size using a percentage, but the resulting LUN size would be greater than 2TB, a LUN of 2TB is
created.
• If you do not specify any LUN sizes, one LUN using all of the available space in the disk group, to a
maximum size of 2TB, is created.
CAUTION: If you specify the luns_size option with the configure array array_number
command, use all of the available space in the disk group. If you do not, the remaining space will not be
usable, as you cannot run the configure array array_number command again to configure the
remaining space on the array.
