HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide Version 2.2
Overview1–10
• One Fibre Channel connection from each controller to each switch (four connections in total).
• Dual-port HBAs on each of two servers, one port connected to each switch.
• EVA4000 storage presented to each of two servers on each of two controllers (preferred to one) and
accessible on each of two HBA ports.
Such a configuration can tolerate the following possible failures:
• Failure of a single controller—peer controller can take over.
• Failure of a single switch—each controller is accessible through the other switch.
• Failure of a server—each controller is accessible from another server.
• Failure of a power supply to the storage array—EVA4000 storage arrays have built-in redundant
power supplies.
• Failure of a dual-port HBA—service can be provided from another Object Storage Server as each
controller is accessible from two servers.
Figure 1-7 shows an overview of storage connections where two Fibre Channel switches are used.
In this configuration, Server 1 normally accesses the storage on EVA4000 1, while Server 2 normally
accesses the storage on EVA4000 2.
However, if Server 1 fails, Server 2 can access the storage on EVA4000 1; similarly, if Server 2 fails, Server
1 can access the storage on EVA4000 2.
