HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide Version 2.2

Installing the servers — SFS20 storage7–26
7.10 Step 10: Scanning MAC addresses
You now need to get the hardware Ethernet Media Access Control (MAC) address of each server on the
management network, by entering the command shown in the following example (you must include the
administration server in the list of targets for this command):
sfs> scan mac south[1-4]
In this example, the command scans for the MAC address for servers south1 (the administration server),
south2 (the MDS server), south3, and south4.
The scan mac command takes several minutes to complete. It resets each server (except the administration
server, where the command is issued; the command can get the MAC address of the administration server
without resetting the server).
Proceed to Section 7.11 to back up the system database.
7.11 Step 11: Backing up the system database
At this point, back up the system database by entering the following command:
sfs> create database_backup
Proceed to Section 7.12 to install and configure the MDS server.
7.12 Step 12: Installing and configuring the MDS server
To install and configure the MDS server, perform the following tasks:
1. Install the MDS server (see Section 7.12.1).
2. Verify the installation of the MDS server (see Section 7.12.2).
7.12.1 Installing the MDS server
To install the MDS server from CD-ROM, perform the following steps:
1. Select the console of the MDS server.
2. Turn on the power to the MDS server.
3. Insert the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Software CD-ROM into the disk drive.
4. Install the MDS server by entering the following command:
boot: install
When the installation process has completed, the server reboots automatically.
NOTE: When the MDS server reboots, it is automatically configured; that is, you do not need to
enter the configure server command.
5. When the server has rebooted, the installation CD-ROM is automatically ejected from the disk drive.
Remove the CD-ROM from the disk drive tray. (This prevents the possibility of the disk drive being
closed with the CD-ROM still in place; if this happens, the server will attempt to boot from CD-ROM
the next time it is booted.)
Proceed to Section 7.12.2 to verify the installation of the MDS server.
