HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide Version 2.2
Installing the servers — EVA4000 storage6–28
4. Install the MDS server by entering the following command:
boot: install
When the installation process has completed, the server reboots automatically.
NOTE: When the MDS server reboots, it is automatically configured; that is, you do not need to
enter the configure server command.
5. When the server has rebooted, the installation CD-ROM is automatically ejected from the disk drive.
Remove the CD-ROM from the disk drive tray. (This prevents the possibility of the disk drive being
closed with the CD-ROM still in place; if this happens, the server will attempt to boot from CD-ROM
the next time it is booted.)
Proceed to Section 6.15.2 to present virtual disks to the MDS server.
6.15.2 Presenting virtual disks to the MDS server
To allow a server to have access to a virtual disk, the virtual disk must be presented as a LUN to the HBA
ports on the server. To manage the presentation of virtual disks to servers, the EVA4000 array must know
the WWIDs of the HBA ports in each server in the server pair. In EVA4000 terms, the HBA ports are
associated with hosts. Each host entry represents the HBA ports in a server pair (that is, each host represents
four HBA ports), and hosts are used to present the virtual disks to the servers.
In Section 6.6, you created an EVA4000 host entry for the administration and MDS server pair, and in
Section 6.7, you presented the virtual disks required for both the administration and MDS servers to the host
entry for the server pair. However, when you created the host entry for the server pair, it was not possible
to identify the WWIDs of the HBA ports on the MDS server. You must now identify these, and update the
EVA4000 host entry for the administration and MDS server pair with this information. If there are two
storage arrays assigned to the administration and MDS server pair
2
, you must update the information on
the host entry on each of these arrays. When you have done this, the virtual disks that were presented to
the administration server (in Section 6.7) will also be visible as LUNs to the MDS server.
Before you can update the host entry, you must identify the WWIDs of the HBA ports in the MDS server by
entering the show server command, as shown in the following example:
NOTE: You can enter this command on the administration server (for example, south1); you do not need
to log in to the MDS server.
sfs> show server south2
Name: south2
Primary Role: mds
Backup Server: south1

Record this information in the EVA4000 array worksheet for the array (see Table B-9 in Appendix B).
You can update the host entry for the administration and MDS server pair using either the SSSU utility, or
the Command View EVA Web interface. Both of these methods are described here.
2. In a typical system, there is one dedicated EVA4000 array for the administration and MDS server pair.
On smaller systems where OST services are run on the administration and MDS servers, two EVA4000 arrays are assigned to the
administration and MDS server pair.
