HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide Version 2.2
Step 12: Backing up the system database 6–27
3. If the administration server is a ProLiant DL G4 server, skip this step.
If the administration server is a ProLiant DL G3 server, reboot the administration server by entering the
following command:
# reboot
Proceed to Section 6.12 to back up the system database.
6.12 Step 12: Backing up the system database
At this point, back up the system database by entering the following command:
sfs> create database_backup
Proceed to Section 6.13 to scan the Media Access Control (MAC) addresses.
6.13 Step 13: Scanning MAC addresses
You now need to get the hardware Ethernet Media Access Control (MAC) address of each server on the
management network, by entering the command shown in the following example (you must include the
administration server in the list of targets for this command):
sfs> scan mac south[1-4]
In this example, the command scans for the MAC address for servers south1 (the administration server),
south2 (the MDS server), south3, and south4.
The scan mac command takes several minutes to complete. It resets each server (except the administration
server, where the command is issued; the command can get the MAC address of the administration server
without resetting the server).
Proceed to Section 6.14 to back up the system database.
6.14 Step 14: Backing up the system database
At this point, back up the system database by entering the following command:
sfs> create database_backup
Proceed to Section 6.15 to install and configure the MDS server.
6.15 Step 15: Installing and configuring the MDS server
To install and configure the MDS server, perform the following tasks:
1. Install the MDS server (see Section 6.15.1).
2. Present virtual disks to the MDS server (see Section 6.15.2).
3. Verify the installation of the MDS server (see Section 6.15.3).
6.15.1Installing the MDS server

1. Select the console of the MDS server.
2. Insert the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Software CD-ROM into the disk drive.
3. Turn on the power to the MDS server.
