HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide Version 2.2
Configuring the storage5–10
5.2 Configuring EVA4000 storage
This section describes the tasks you must perform to configure the EVA4000 storage to the point where the
virtual disks have been created. The remaining storage configuration steps (creating hosts and presenting
virtual disks to the hosts) are performed as part of the installation process, described in Chapter 6.
You must use a Microsoft® Windows® server to configure and manage the EVA4000 storage arrays; the
server must have the Command View EVA application installed on it. Command View EVA can run on a
Microsoft Windows 2003 Server or on an HP OpenView Storage Management Appliance.
Before you can configure the EVA4000 storage arrays, you must initialize the arrays (see Section 5.2.3).
There are two interfaces that you can use to configure and manage the EVA4000 arrays, as follows:
• The HP StorageWorks Storage System Scripting Utility (SSSU utility) command line interface.
The SSSU utility provides a command line interface that you can use to configure the EVA4000
arrays. To use this interface, you must be able to access the Microsoft Windows server where
Command View EVA is installed, from a system that is running the SSSU utility.
The SSSU utility is included in the EVA 3.0 Platform Kit. You can download this software from the HP
StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array 4000 page on the HP Web site (www.hp.com
).
NOTE: The SSSU utility is supplied with the HP SFS system software for use on the administration
server. However, because the administration server has not been installed and configured at this
point in the installation, you cannot use the administration server to configure the storage on the
EVA4000.
• A Web browser interface.
The Command View EVA application provides a Web interface that you can use to configure the
EVA4000 arrays. You can use a Web browser to access the Microsoft Windows server where
Command View EVA is installed from any point on your network.
To configure the EVA4000 storage arrays, perform the following tasks:
1. Verify the firmware version on HP StorageWorks SAN switches (see Section 5.2.1).
2. Configure IP addresses for the Fibre Channel switches (optional) (see Section 5.2.2).
3. Initialize the EVA4000 storage arrays (see Section 5.2.3).
4. Configure the EVA4000 storage arrays using one of the following methods:
• Using the SSSU Utility (Section 5.2.4)
• Using the Command View EVA Web Interface (Section 5.2.5)
5.2.1 Verifying the firmware version on HP StorageWorks SAN switches
Before you start to configure the EVA4000 storage, verify that the firmware on each of the HP StorageWorks
SAN Fibre Channel switches used in the HP SFS system is at the version specified in the HP StorageWorks
Scalable File Share Release Notes. If it is not, update the firmware as necessary.
5.2.2 Configuring IP addresses for the Fibre Channel switches (optional)
You may optionally connect the HP StorageWorks SAN Fibre Channel switches (which connect the servers
to the EVA4000 storage arrays) to the management network. The process for setting the IP address on the
switch is detailed in the HP StorageWorks SAN Switch 2/16 Installation Guide, which is available at the
following location:
