1 New and changed features in HP SFS Version 2.2-1 This chapter describes the new and changed features in the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share (HP SFS) Version 2.2-1 product since HP SFS Version 2.2-0. The chapter is organized as follows: • Read the Release Notes for HP SFS Version 2.2-0 (Section 1.1) • New and changed features in HP SFS Version 2.2-1 (Section 1.2) • Known issues and workarounds in HP SFS Version 2.2-1 (Section 1.3) • Upgrade/downgrade notes (Section 1.
1.1 Read the Release Notes for HP SFS Version 2.2-0 In addition to reading this document, you should also read the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share Release Notes for HP SFS Version 2.2-0 (dated November 2006). The Release Notes for HP SFS Version 2.2-0 contain information that also applies to the HP SFS Version 2.
1.2 New and changed features in HP SFS server software This section describes all new and changed features in the HP SFS Version 2.2-1 server software since Version 2.2-0, and is organized as follows: • Support added for the OpenFabric Enterprise Distribution (OFED) InfiniBand software stack (Section 1.2.1) • Improved SFS20 firmware and a new firmware download method (Section 1.2.2) • Additional support for non-0 LNETs (Section 1.2.3) • Spare Adm LUN is now kept up-to-date (Section 1.2.
Up until SFS firmware Version 2.02 there were different firmware binaries for SFS20 and MSA20. Starting with Version 2.02 this is no longer be the case. For Version 2.02 and later the MSA20 and SFS20 share the same version of firmware. NOTE: MSA20 firmware Version 2.02 requires Smart Array firmware Version 2.74 or higher. Download the firmware from the MSA20 section of the HP support website as follows: 1. Go to: http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/storage/us/family/model/ 6046.
1.2.7 Updated configure system command The configure system command has been extended to allow switching between the Voltaire and OFED stacks. 1.2.8 New lustre.lnet global system attribute A new lustre.lnet global system attribute now allows you to override the automatically generated options lnet networks parameter in /modprobe.conf. Refer to Chapter 7 of the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System User Guide for more information. 1.2.
1.2.15 Interconnect is determined by LNET options only In releases prior to HP SFS Version 2.2-0, the interconnect used for Lustre traffic was specified as an option to the sfsmount or lconf commands (and also in /etc/sfstab or /etc/ststab.proto). Starting with HP SFS Version 2.2-0, this is no longer the case.
1.2.17 Tested client configurations update For HP SFS Version 2.2-1, the following changes apply to the tested client configurations in Chapter 1 of the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share Client Installation and User Guide: • All RHEL 4 Update 4 clients now build with kernel version 2.6.9-42.0.10.EL and not 2.6.9-42.0.2.EL. • All RHEL 3 Update 8 clients now build with kernel version 2.4.21-47.0.1.EL and not 2.4.21-47.EL.
1.3 Known issues and workarounds in HP SFS Version 2.2-1 This section describes known issues and workarounds in the HP SFS Version 2.2-1 software, and is organized as follows: • Configuring an InfiniBand interface (vib stack only) with the wrong partition key (Section 1.3.1) • InfiniHost III Lx HCAs are not supported with OFED (Section 1.3.2) • Configuring the subnet mask on a HP SFS system with an InfiniBand Interconnect (Section 1.3.
1.3.3 Configuring the subnet mask on a HP SFS system with an InfiniBand Interconnect If you intend to attach your HP SFS system to a HP XC system using the InfiniBand Interconnect you must ensure that the subnet mask associated with this network is identical on both systems. For example, if the subnet mask of the InfiniBand interface on your HP SFS system is 255.255.0.0, then you must also configure your HP XC system to use 255.255.0.0 as the subnet mask of the InfiniBand interface. 1.3.
1.3.7 SUSE SLES9 clients do not support long directory names SUSE SLES 9 clients do not support directory names longer than 23 characters. 1.3.8 Cannot switch InfiniBand stacks while partioned interfaces are configured Switching InfiniBand stacks while partitioned interfaces are configured does not work. In this case, it is necessary to follow the following procedure: 1.3.9 1. Delete all InfiniBand interfaces except the first one (which cannot be deleted). 2.
1.4 Upgrade/downgrade notes This section provides information about upgrading an existing system from an earlier version of the HP SFS software to HP SFS Version 2.2-1. The section is organized as follows: 1.4.1 • HP SFS server and client software versions (Section 1.4.1) • Upgrade/downgrade process (Section 1.4.2) • Starting file systems after upgrading (Section 1.4.

1.7.1.2 Section 2.4 Downgrading HP SFS client software on HP XC systems The steps to downgrade the HP SFS client software on the HP XC head node have been updated as follows: 1. If you are using XC Availability you must disable it before proceeding. If your XC system is Version 3.1 or higher and has availability enabled, run the transfer_from_avail command to disable availability before stopping the SFS service and stopping any services in /hptc_cluster.
3. Unmount all Lustre file systems on the client node that you are going to downgrade, as follows: # sfsumount -a 4. Remove all of the existing HP SFS RPM files on the client node in the order in which they were installed, as shown in the following example: NOTE: In the example shown here, the python-ldap package is removed. This package needs to be removed only on HP Integrity systems. Omit this command on all other systems.
