6.3 Verifying PCI Host Bus Adapter Firmware
With the exception of the Smart Array 6404, the firmware version of the PCI host bus adapters
does not have to be verified. See “Verifying Smart Array 6404 Firmware Version” for information
about checking Smart Array 6404 firmware.
The software drivers for the PCI adapters determine the firmware version. When the drivers are
loaded, firmware is downloaded to the PCI adapters during driver initialization.
6.4 Verifying Smart Array 6404 Firmware Version
You have to verify the Smart Array 6404 (SA-6404) firmware on each server in an HP SFS system.
To check the SA-6404 firmware on an Object Storage Server, you will have to connect each Object
Storage Server to the KVM switch.
You need the system-level controller number to check the SA-6404 firmware version. Each
SA-6404 has two controllers. Controller 1 drives the top ports, ports A1 and A2. Controller 2
drives the bottom ports, ports B1 and B2. SCSI bus numbering, and, therefore, system-level
controller numbering, is sequential as shown in Figure 6-1 “Smart Array 6404 Controller
Numbering” and described in Table 6-1 “Smart Array 6404 Controller Numbering”.

To verify the SA-6404 firmware version, use the show server command to determine how
many Smart Array 6404 modules are installed on the system and the firmware revision of each.
