HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share for SFS20 Enclosure Hardware Installation Guide Version 2.2
4 Connecting the Power and Powering On the System
After the HP SFS system has been installed and all interrack and intersystem cables connected,
power must be connected to each cabinet, and the system must be powered on.
See the Cluster Platform Site Preparation Guide and ensure that you have complied with the
following power-related topics:
• Power calculation
• Power connections
• General and building guidelines
• Grounding
• Power distribution
• Uninterruptible power supply (UPS)
4.1 Connecting the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System to
Building Power
To connect an HP SFS system to building power, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that each PDU main circuit breaker and circuit breakers 1, 2, 3, and 4 are off (three
PDUs in each cabinet).
2. Connect power distribution unit (PDU) 1 of each cabinet to a building power circuit or UPS.
3. Connect PDU2 of each cabinet to a completely separate building power circuit or UPS.
4. Connect PDU3 of each cabinet to yet another completely separate building power circuit or
UPS.
Note:
Be sure to follow the guidelines in the Cluster Platform Site Preparation Guide.
4.2 Turning on Power to the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System
To turn on power to the HP SFS components, follow these steps:
1. Turn on the PDU1 main circuit breaker, then circuit breakers 1, 2, 3, and 4 (in that order), in
the base cabinet.
2. Turn on the PDU2 main circuit breaker, then circuit breakers 1, 2, 3, and 4 (in that order), in
the base cabinet.
3. Turn on the PDU3 main circuit breaker, then circuit breakers 1, 2, 3, and 4 (in that order), in
the base cabinet.
4. Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 for each of the expansion cabinets.
5. Turn on power to the keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) switch (Figure 2-17 “Rear View
of 8-Port KVM Server Console Switch”).
6. Access and open the TFT5600 rackmount keyboard monitor. Opening the monitor allows
the display switch to turn on power to the panel.
7. See the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System User Guide worksheets to obtain server
names, and Chapter 5 “Using the Keyboard, Video, and Mouse Switch”, and assign server
names to the KVM ports as shown in Table 4-1 “KVM Port Assignment”.
