The SFS20 provides Ultra320 low-voltage differential (LVD) host connectivity. One HP SFS20

Enclosure input port is connected to a PCI host bus adapter in each server of the

MDS/administration or Object Storage Server pair. Data is mirrored across two HP SFS20

Enclosures for the MDS and administration servers.

2.3.2 SA-6404 PCI-X RAID Controller

A Smart Array 6404 (SA-6404) PCI-X Ultra320 RAID controller is required in a server PCI slot

to access the HP SFS20 Enclosure over a very high density cable interconnect (VHDCI) SCSI

cable.

The SA-6404 controller has four ports, so it can be connected to four MSA20 enclosures. Only

two ports are used for the MDS/administration server failover pair. The SA-6404 controller

supports RAID 1, 0+1, and 5. In SFS20 configurations, the RAID capability of the SA 6404 is not

used. The SFS20 does all RAID calculations.

2.4 Management Network Switches

A management network handles management and installation tasks, iLO communications, and

isolates the administration traffic from storage traffic in an HP SFS configuration.

All servers are connected to an HP ProCurve Switch, which is located in the base rack. NIC1 and

the iLO port of each server are connected to the ProCurve Switch.

One ProCurve Switch (2626 or 2650) can be used for HP SFS configurations with 10 or fewer

Object Storage Servers. A second ProCurve Switch is needed for configurations with 12 to 22

Object Storage Servers. Three ProCurve Switchs are required for configurations with 24 to 32

Object Storage Servers. For larger configurations, up to a maximum of 64 Object Storage Servers,

you must use three ProCurve Switch 2650 switches. Keep this requirement in mind if you are

starting with a smaller configuration but plan to expend beyond 32 Object Storage Servers.

In configurations with more than one ProCurve Switch, the switches are connected with an

interswitch link (ISL) on Gigabit ports 25 and 26.
