The rack arrives already populated with the HP SFS components. The order and component
placement in the rack were preconfigured based on such factors as configuration requirements
(number of Object Storage Servers, server type, and ratio of SFS20 Enclosures to Object Storage
Servers), weight, accessibility, power, temperature, and airflow requirements.
CAUTION: Do not lay the rack horizontally because the sheet metal can
become distorted and the components damaged.

2.2 Administration, MDS, and Object Storage Server Characteristics
ProLiant DL380 dual-processor Xeon servers are used for the administration and MDS servers
in an HP SFS configuration. The Object Storage Servers are ProLiant DL380 servers unless the
system interconnect uses Gigabit Ethernet, in which case the Object Storage Servers can be
ProLiant DL360 servers.
This section discusses the following topics:
• Server characteristics (“HP SFS Server Characteristics”)
• Server configurations for HP SFS configurations (“HP SFS System Server Configurations”)
• Server front and rear panels (“Server Front and Rear Panels”)
• Server embedded technologies (“Embedded Technologies”)
• Server high-availability features (“High-Availability Features”)
