HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share for SFS20 Enclosure Hardware Installation Guide Version 2.2

the interconnect is between the compute nodes in the compute cluster and the HP SFS MDS and
Object Storage Servers.
The storage in an HP SFS system is the HP SFS20 Enclosure. An SFS20 is a modified MSA20 with
a dual-port contoller. It is only sold as part of an HP SFS system, and has been named the HP
SFS20 Enclosure. The documentation for the HP SFS20 Enclosure is the MSA-20 documentation
and SFS20 supplemental documentation.
An HP SFS system is fully configured, integrated, and mounted into HP 10000 series 42U racks,
and is tested at the factory prior to delivery. Factory configuration includes the following tasks:
Install hardware components.
Label all cables.
Install all intrarack cabling.
Configure Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) ports and network ports.
Configure MDS and Object Storage Servers.
Configure external storage devices and local embedded file system storage.
Load Lustre File System software and layered products on the system.
Verify the configuration.
After configuration, the individual racks are disconnected and mounted on shock pallets for
shipment. This ensures that the system is complete and allows for quick installation of the
equipment at the customer's site.
1.2 HP SFS Hardware Components
An HP SFS consists of multiple building blocks in HP 10000 series 42U racks:

1 The MDS and Admin nodes are always DL380s. The OSS nodes are always DL380s unless the interconnect is Gigabit
Ethernet and the number of SFS20 enclosures per server is two or one, in which case DL360s are used.
These components are integrated and mounted in 2-meter (78.7-inch) high racks with power
distribution units (PDUs) for power management and fans for adequate cooling in a typical
computer environment. Racks and rack-mountable components are typically described using
U measurements. One U is 44.45 millimeters (1.75 inches) high.
The MDS and administrative server are ProLiant DL380 Generation 5 (DL380 G5) or ProLiant
DL380 Generation 4 (DL380 G4) 2U servers. Each MDS and Admin server has 4 GB of memory,
two 72GB disk drives, one or two Smart Array 6404 Ultra320, PCI-X array controllers (SA-6404),
and a DVD drive.
The Object Storage Servers can be one of the following:
ProLiant DL360 G5 or G4 1U servers if the system interconnect is Gigabit Ethernet. Each
DL360 Object Storage Server has 2 GB of memory or more, a 72GB disk drive, and one
