Servers require a second ProCurve Switch for the management network. A third ProCurve Switch
is required for configurations of between 24 and 34 Object Storage Servers. For larger
configurations, up to a maximum of 64 Object Storage Servers, you must use three HP Procurve
2650 switches.
1.4.1 HP SFS Configuration Block Diagrams
The illustrations in this section provide block diagrams of the MDS server and administrative
server or Object Storage Servers. The placement of the PCI host bus adapters, SA-6404 ports,
embedded NICS, and PS/2 connections are not consistent with actual placement. They have been
placed as they are to provide drawings with a minimum number of line crossings. Observe that
the A2 and B2 ports are never connected to an SFS20 enclosure and that any one SFS20 must be
connected to the same port on the equivalent SA6404 of each server. The management network
ProCurve Switch (2626 0r 2650) is a required component in all HP SFS systems.
1.4.1.1 MDS and Administration Server Block Diagrams
Figure 1-1 “Block Diagram of MDS Server and Administration Server with Two HP SFS20
Enclosures (1:1 Configuration)” shows a block diagram of an MDS server and administration
server with two HP SFS20 Enclosures. This configuration is referred to as a 1:1 configuration
(one HP SFS20 Enclosure to one server). The MDS server and administration server must be
ProLiant DL380 servers. This configuration could be used as an entry level configuration where
the MDS and administration servers also function as Object Storage Servers.
