Introduction This document is intended for IAP administrators and field personnel responsible for managing an HP Integrated Archive Platform (IAP). The objective of this whitepaper is to provide one example of an IAP disaster recovery procedure by offering guidance on how to recover primary/secondary SmartCells from replica SmartCells.

IAP Data Replication Overview The IAP Data Replication Option enables you to replicate an IAP Base System to a secondary IAP Base System, either locally or remotely over IP. The Replica IAP provides the same functionalities as the primary site (search, data retrieval, etc.). The goal of replication is to improve systems’ and data availability and reliability by maintaining redundant resources in separate locations – IAP replication provides both.

SmartCell Recovery Process – Use Case Example System Configuration For the purposes of this example use case, assume the IAP system is configured as follows: PrimSys (Primary IAP) – GroupID: XYZ001 Primary SmartCell (P) Secondary SmartCell (S) 10.0.172.1 -> hard drive failure 10.0.204.1 -> hard drive failure RepSys (Replica IAP) – GroupID: XYZ001 Replica1 SmartCell (R1) Replica2 SmartCell (R2) 10.0.172.2 -> functioning as normal 10.0.204.

SmartCell Recovery Process – Steps The SmartCell recovery process consists of two sets of steps: the first set must be run on the Replica IAP (in this use case, RepSys) and the second set must be run on the Primary IAP (in this use case, PrimSys). First Set of Steps – To Be Run On RepSys (Replica IAP) Restore the data to the Primary IAP site’s secondary SmartCell disk drives by creating a cloned set from the Replica1 SmartCell and sending the original Replica2 drives back to the Primary IAP site. 1.

Second Set of Steps – To Be Run On PrimSys (Primary IAP) Replace the Primary IAP site’s secondary SmartCell’s disk drives with the Replica IAP site’s cloned R2 SmartCell’s disk drives, and then restore the data to the primary SmartCell by cloning from the newly restored secondary SmartCell. 1. Insert the cloned disk drives from R2-10.0.204.2 (received from the RepSys IAP Replica site) into the Primary IAP site’s secondary SmartCell S-10.0.204.1 slots. a.

Clean-Up Steps Caveat 1: The old cell IDs in the DB2 tables that reference the SmartCells with the failed hard drives on the Primary IAP must be cleaned out.
