Volume TAPE.3 was used for the database backup.
4. Move backup volumes off-site:
a. This command should list the volumes TAPE.2 and TA PE.3:
tsm: INTERNAL>query drmedia * wherestate=mountable
tsm: INTERNAL>move drmedia * wherestate=mountable
VolumesTAPE.2and3weremovedtotheexitportofthelibrary;theirstatewassetto
notmountable.
b. This marks the state of the two volumes as courier:
tsm: INTERNAL>move drmedia * wherestate=notmountable
c. Markstateofthevolumesasvault:
tsm: INTERNAL>move drmedia * wherestate=courier
5. Create the recovery plan file and copy it to a safe location.
This file includes the configuration information.
a. Create the directory c:\tsmbackup on the backup server.
b. Issue tsm: INTERNAL>prepare planprefix=c:\tsmbackup\recplan.
This process creates a single file that contains instructions, macros, the Volume History, Device
Configuration, and Server Options file.
6. Use this procedure to manually back up the configuration.
a. Backupthevolumehistoryfile:
tsm: INTERNAL>backup volhistory filenames=c:\tsmbackup\volhistory
b. Back up the device configuration:
tsm: INTERNAL>backup devconfig filenames=c:\tsmbackup\devconfig
c. Back up the server options file:
Copy file C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\server1\dsmserv.opt to c:\tsmbackup.
d. Copy these three files to a safe location.
7. Createalistofoff-sitemediatoretrieve:
tsm: INTERNAL>query drmedia * wherestate=vaultretrieve
In this example the list will be empty. Usually, however, a courier would take the database, storage
pool, and configuration backups off-site and would return with the m edia that contain data that is no
longer valid so that the media can be used for the next cycle.
Recovering the backup server
The following steps explain how to recover the backup server by using backup media that have b een
stored off-site.
