HP StorageWorks XP Performance Advisor Software v4.6 User and Troubleshooting Guide (T1789-96094, June 2010)

RAID Group A RAID group is a group of 4 or 8 physical hard disk drives (HDDs) installed in
an XP disk array and assigned a common RAID level.
RAID1 array groups consist of 4 HDDs (2D+2D) or 8 HDDs (4D+4D).
RAID5 array groups include a parity disk, but also consist of 4 HDDs (3D+1P)
or 8 HDDs (7D+1P).
RAID6 array groups are made up of 8 HDDs (6D+2P).
RML RAID Manager Library (RMLIB)
The RML or RMLIB is an API library that enables third party software products to
directly operate some of the functions on the XP subsystem.
Side file The Side file is an area of the XP cache that has been set aside specifically for
replication related activities that use Business Copy (BC) and XP Continuous
Access.
SM Shared Memory
The SM stores shared information about the XP subsystem and the Cache control
information. This type of information is used for the exclusive control of the
subsystem. Similar to Cache, shared memory is controlled as two areas of memory
and is fully non-volatile (sustained for approximately seven days).
Snapshot Snapshot is a BC volume type which depicts a point-in-time copy of the original
volume (PVOL).
SVP Service Processor. The SVP is a PC built into the XP disk controller and provides
a direct interface into the XP disk array.
NOTE:
The access to SVP is reserved for HP authorized service personnel only.
SVOL Secondary Volume (also seen with a hyphen as S-VOL). The SVOL is the second
(non source) volume of a paired volume set (the other volume being the PVOL).
ThP, TP Thin Provisioning
Using ThP, you can operate with a global pool of LDEVs that are not assigned
to physical storage. The disk arrays add virtual capacity from the pool of LDEVs
as and when the data is written, and only at that time is physical capacity
assigned to LDEVs and used for storage.
Trap An SNMP agent initiates trap operations when R-SIMs occur, to send the R-SIMs
to the SNMP manager. An SNMP agent can be configured to deliver traps to
more than one SNMP manager.
TSM XP Tiered Storage Manager software is used to perform migration, where data
stored on one volume is moved to another volume. XP Tiered Storage Manager
software moves data on predefined set of volumes to another set of volumes with
the same characteristics. For more information, see the manuals set provided for
XP Tiered Storage Manager software on the HP Manuals page.
WWN World Wide Name. A unique identifier for a particular open-system Host Bus
Adapter (HBA), consisting of a 64-bit physical address (the IEEE 48-bit format
with 12-bit extension and 4-bit prefix).
