Executing the UNIX host agent installer
IMPORTANT:
Before proceeding with the installation, use XPInfo to verify whether the connectivity to the command
device is established. If you are performing an upgrade, the connectivity to the command device must
already exist. For more information, see “Verifying host connectivity to a command device” on page 39.
To execute the UNIX host agent installer:
1. Telnet to the remote host as a root user.
2. Navigate to the tmp directory or to the folder, where you have copied the host agent files.
3. Untar the host agent .tar file:
tar -xvf XPPA_HA_<os_name>.tar
4. Run the installation script: unix_local_install.sh
The installation script, for UNIX hosts, displays a series of prompts. Respond to these prompts as
appropriate for your environment.
5. Click Y to continue.
Enabling the UNIX host agent to use IPv6
Enable your XP Performance Advisor UNIX host agent to use IPv6 as the communication protocol, if
the XP Performance Advisor is also enabled for IPv6. Ensure that both the management station and
host communicate using the same protocol, either IPv6 or IPv4, and your host agent and XP Performance
Advisor are also enabled to use those protocols. To enable IPv6 on your UNIX host agent:
1. When you are prompted to enable or disable IPv6, enter Y in the command prompt window to
enable IPv6.
Enter N (default option) if you do not want the UNIX host to use IPv6 as a communication protocol.
2. Based on whether you have enabled or disabled IPv6 for your host agent, enter the corresponding
DNS or IP address of the management station. The UNIX host agent will use the selected protocol
type to establish communication with the management station.
Based on the DNS or IP address that you provide, the corresponding protocol is established as
the default communication protocol.
3. Press Enter to continue.
The installation wizard installs the XP Performance Advisor UNIX host agent folder in the following
location: /opt/xppa/hostagent.
For more information on enabling IPv6 on your host, see the important notes in “Enabling the Windows
host agent for IPv6” on page 74.
