Performance Advisor Confi guration and Performance Data
Collection Prerequisites for Windows Opera ting System
To overcome device renaming and device remapping issues during data collection, it is recommended
to use the Windows globally unique identifier (\\?\Volume{GUID}) to perform configuration and
performance data collection instead of the using the device file names.
Complete the following steps to use the globally unique identifier for data collection process:
After installing the PA Windows hostagent, the host names appear in the Host Information screen and the
Command Device file names appear in the Data Collection Configuration screen.
1. Login to the PA XP hostagent and stop the host agent. For example, <install directory>:\Program
Files\Hewlett-Packa rd\sanmgr\hostagent\sbin> hastop.bat
2. In the command line, run the xpdevicemap command, to get the list of all the command devices,
as shown in .

3. Creat
e a Globally Unique ID (GUID) on the command devices you wish to perform data collection.
Complete the following steps to create the GUID:
a. Login to the PA hostagent as administrator or as a m ember of the Administrators group.
b. Open t
he Computer Management console by clicking on Start —> Run —> compmgmt.msc
—> OK.
c. Select Disk Manag ement under Storage on the lef t menu tree.
d. On the right pane, select a command device from the list of command devices displayed by
the x
pdevicemap command as shown in . Right-click the command device and select New
Partition.TheNew Partition Wizard displays.
e. Click Next and select Primary partition and click Next.
f. Spe
cify the size of the partition in the PartitionsizeinMBbox, and click Next.
g. Click on Mount in the following N TFS Folder,andclickBrowse. Select the Mount Point and
click Next.
h. Sel
ect Donotformatthispartition,andclickNext.
i. Click Finish. The selected command device is partitioned and has been assigned a GUID.
