Fabric OS 5.2.x administrator guide 229
NOTE: Trunking is not supported on EX_Ports connected to the McData fabric.
Connectivity modes
You can connect to M-Series fabrics in both McDATA Open mode or McDATA Fabric mode. If the mode is
not configured correctly, the port is disabled for incompatibility.
NOTE: HP M-Series and McDATA fabrics are supported in Open mode.
To allow interconnectivity with McDATA SANs, the CLI command portCfgExPort uses the -m option to
indicate the connectivity mode. Table 52 lists the valid parameters to use with the -m option to set the
connectivity mode.
You can display the current operational mode of the EX_Port by issuing the portCfgExPort command
with the port number as the only parameter.
See ”Configuring an interfabric link” on page 211 for details about the portCfgExPort command,
which is used for McDATA Fabric mode on Fabric OS 5.2.x.
Configuring the FC router
When configuring an HP B-Series fabric to connect to a M-Series or McDATA fabric, you must perform
some preparation on the FC router. The following procedure shows how to connect an EX_Port of an FC
router fabric to a McDATA fabric configured in Fabric mode.
1. Verify the McDATA firmware version. To display the front domain on the McDATA fabric, use the
McDATA show command.
2. Using the version command, make sure that Fabric OS 5.2.x is installed on the 400 MP Router or
B-Series MP Router (FR4-18i) blade, as shown in the following.
3. On the 400 MP Router and B-Series MP Router (FR4-18i) blade, disable the port being configured as an
EX_Port (the one connected to the switch) by issuing the portDisable command.
You can verify that the port has been disabled by issuing the portShow command for the port.
4. Using the portCfgExPort command, configure the port as an EX_Port and provide a Fabric ID (FID).
If no FID is specified, multiple links to the same fabric are assigned different FIDs. This results in a fabric
ID oversubscription.
For the HP fabric, use the -p flag of the portCfgExPort command to match the PID setting for the
fabric to which you are connecting. This port will connect to the HP switch.
Table 52 portCfgExPort -m values

1 McDATA Open mode When the neighboring McDATA switch is
running in Open mode
